Israel Committed Possible War Crimes in Gaza
This week Archbishop Desmond Tutu of South Africa will present his findings to the UN Human Rights Council based on a trip to Beit Hanoun in Gaza. Israel shelled Beit Hanoun nearly two years ago but attributed the incident to ‘technical errors’ from a flawed artillery firing system. However, Archbishop Tutu disagrees; he says there was a disregard for civilian life which violates international law. Because Israel alone possesses all the facts, he says the shelling of Beit Hanoun may constitute a war crime and is calling for an independent investigation into the incident.
