Petraeus Steps Down
In a change of course, General David Petraeus, the US military commander in Iraq, has stepped out of his position, handing it over to Lt. Gen. Raymond Odierno. Petraeus is essentially accepting a promotion, becoming the commander of overseas operations. However, this pulls him away from the precise ground situation of Iraq, an area he has begun to master since the successes of his surge plan. Odierno may be able to keep lessening violence in Iraq and continue bringing more stability to the region that has limped on since the invasion in February, 2003.
