Educational Development: Dream or Possibility?

For developing countries, such as Turkey, the educational system requires crucial attention. Although the governments that have come to power in the past have claimed to have done so, when analyzed, there has not been major improvement in the educational system. The educational system, especially in such a diverse country, is the basis for democracy, human rights, high standards of life, and in the larger perspective successful future existence.

Recently the government has announced that they intend to employ 10,000 new teachers in order to improve the standard of education. This is a crucial first step. However, if curricula are not changed with regard to globalization and changing world theories, even the employment of teachers may not help. The educational system in Turkey is based on memorization and does not train students to be successful in real life interactions.

Yes, the government may be doing some things that seem to be going in the direction of development, but what is the real motive?
