Car Bombing in Tripoli Kills Soldiers and Wounds Civilians
A remotely detonated car bombing in Tripoli, Lebanon on Monday resulted in the death of five soldiers and the wounding of twenty civilians. This incident is only the latest in a string of bombings that have devastated the city and its surrounding areas. The wreckage was described as, ” blackened and twisted” and eyewitnesses told of the horror they had seen, “I saw dead people and blood on the ground,” said Abdel Qadir Shehadeh, “The car was burning, and I heard people screaming. There was broken glass all over.”
One reason Tripoli has been the target of these recent attacks is because Islamist militants are regrouping there after having been defeated a year ago by the army.
Most importantly, this attack coincides with other similar attacks in the Syrian capital of Damascus and raises fears that more attacks are on the way, both in Tripoli and in surrounding areas.
