Yemen To Host Competition, Build Facilities
Yemen will be hosting the very popular Gulf Football Competition in 2011. The event is held every two years and is open to teams in the Persian Gulf.
Yemen’s government is going to spend a total of YR 60 million to host the event. According to Aden’s Governor Adnan al-Jafri, the competition will take place in cities and provinces throughout Yemen, including Aden, Lahj and Abyan. The cost includes plans to launch development and reconstruction projects throughout the country in preparation for the competition.
Yemen’s hosting Gulf Football is a significant development which is likely to bring a large amount of attention and media coverage to Yemen. It seems as if the competition will confirm Yemen’s role as a key actor in the Middle East region as well. The reconstruction projects are likely to modernize and industrialize parts of Yemen. The development shows the significant effect that a sporting competition, such as Gulf Football can have on a country such as Yemen. It will be interesting to track the changes that occur throughout the country as the competition approaches.
