US-Libya Trade Ties
On Sunday, the United States opened a trade office in Libya. This new economic tie between the two countries comes exactly one month after the U.S. opened diplomatic relations with Libya through a meeting between Libyan leader Colonel Ghaddafi and U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
The opening of the trade office will help boost commerce between the two countries. U.S. Assistant Secretary of Trade Israel Hernandez attended the opening along with Libyan officials and both Libyan and U.S. businessmen.
Although trade and diplomatic communications are expanding, the U.S. still has yet to appoint an ambassador to Libya and is waiting for all victims of the Lockerbie plane bombing to be compensated.
