Business Jet Forced Down in Iran
CNN reported Tuesday that the U.S. military coalition in Iraq has confirmed that a business jet was forced down in Iran recently for illegally entering Iranian airspace. There were various rumors circulating via Iranian news sources, one suggesting that the plane was a U.S. military “falcon fighter” with American military personnel on board; another said the aircraft was Hungarian with no Americans on board; a third said the passengers were humanitarian workers; an additional one stated the aircraft was definitely not American. The UN Security Council says they have no reason to believe that any of the reports by these Iranian news agencies are accurate. The U.S. military has officially confirmed that all of their F-16s were accounted for, and that the plane brought down from Iranian airspace was in fact a European business jet and not an F-16. The origin of the plane remains unknown. An Iranian news agency says the passengers were allowed to continue on to their destination in Afghanistan after “daylong interrogations,” though the validity of these statements is questionable.
