Steps To Unite
As reported by CNN on Tuesday October 14, 2008, representatives from Turkey, Iraq, and Iraq’s Kurdish Regional Government met in Northern Iraq to discuss future diplomacy. The objective of the meeting was to begin a peaceful discourse between the two nations regarding the Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK), which is based on the Turkey-Iraq border. The PKK is considered a terrorist group by Iraq, Turkey and the European Union, as well as the United States. The Prime Minister of Iraq, Nuri al-Maliki, condemned terrorist attacks initiated by the PKK.
The meeting is a sign of diplomacy among Middle Eastern nations. By bridging gaps and punishing terrorist groups, these two nations are attempting to operate in one accord and demonstrate a sign of unity and future prosperity for their nations and its citizens. If more countries around the world, particularly those in similar predicaments, struggling to become modern societies while maintaining traditional values were use this type of diplomacy, the developing nations of the world could set an unprecedented standard for diplomacy.
