Israeli Foreign Minister to Negotiate Peace Treaty with Lebanon
Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni is looking into a long term non-belligerence treaty with Lebanon in an effort to secure peace around the countries’ border and end fighting. The plan, which was first revealed two weeks ago, includes a solution to the disputed Sheba Farms border area, the divided village of Ghajar, and other adjustments demanded by Lebanon.
Israel would also recommend coordinated efforts between its army, the Lebanese Army and the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon over border activities and monitoring per the Agreement.
However, officials from the Israeli Foreign Ministry conclude that a full peace agreement with Lebanon can only be reached after a similar deal is reached with Syria, but Israel is still going to try and advance on a separate track with Lebanon in hopes of reaching a long term non-belligerency treaty.
