Saudi Arabia’s Diplomacy Track Record
Over the last few years, Saudi Arabia has had a very up and down trend in their attempts at foreign diplomacy in the Middle East. They have been trying to take an active role in the politics of the region and have encountered both success and defeat with each of their attempts. They attempted to help the Israeli-Palestinian conflict by advising a deal between Hamas and Fatah, which appeared to have promise, until Hamas made an attack in Gaza. More recently they have shifted their diplomatic efforts to the problems in Afghanistan. King Abdullah hosted a Ramadan breakfast to help open up discussion between two groups: the Afghan government and the Taliban radicals. While its not sure how things have progressed, this proves as a new opportunity for improving the diplomatic track record of Saudi Arabia.
