Peace Between Syria and Lebanon a Definite Possibility
The National Rally of Islamic Parties and Palestinian Factions in Southern Lebanon embraced the idea of pursuing and stabilizing relations politically and economically with Syria. This in itself was monumental given the history between the two countries. It seems to suggest that long held qualms between the two maybe put aside to realize a relationship that doesn’t consist of political and military posturing. After concluding a meeting in the Lebanese city of Sidon, the rally seemed to realize that it would be more beneficial to pursue diplomatic ties with Syria. The concluding statement noted that it was only to the detriment of Syria and Lebanon to allow those who did not seek this goal to continue to influence social and political thought. This enlightened view on the prospects of the two nations leads us to believe that peace is definitely more than a possibility for the near future.
