King Abdullah meets with Condoleeza Rice
King Abdullah is meeting with US Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice. She is visiting Jordan, Israel, Palestine and Egypt. She will brief the King on peace efforts and other issues affecting the region. Rice said their goal was to lay the ground for continued work between the next Israeli government and the incoming Obama administration. The main point of interest being the Gaza truce between Israel and Palestine.
Hamas, which currently controls the Gaza strip, expressed willingness to hold talks with US president-elect Barack Obama. Ismail Haniyeh, head of the Hamas government in the Palestinian territory said, “We hope the new US President will learn from the mistakes of the previous administration and give up the policy of bias towards Israel.”
