Will Qatada Be Released?

Abu Qatada is a native of Jordan and was once described as Osama bin Laden’s right-hand man in Europe. He was arrested on Saturday and his council home in West London was searched. He had previously been released from jail in Worcestershire in June. The Appeal Court ruled that Qatada would not get a fair trial in his native Jordan, where he is wanted for terrorism offenses. He has not had a passport and was under house arrest. He also did not have access to a computer or cell phone, but is apparently trying to escape and go back to the Middle East.

The UK Border Agency applied to the Special Immigration Appeals Commission to have Qatada’s bail revoked. The Commission is expected to make a decision today. He has been convicted twice in Jordan for conspiracy to bomb two hotels in Amman in 1998.
