Fatah al-Islam and Turmoil in Lebanon
The March 14 Forces, a coalition of political groups in Lebanon, called upon the Arab League to create a fact-finding commission to investigate the Fatah al-Islam group. This group has been implicated in many acts of violence in Lebanon, and many members were found hiding out in a refugee camp in the country’s northern region. The March 14 Forces would like to see this commission formed in order to prove that Fatah al-Islam is causing harm to Lebanon and the Middle East. Cooperation with Syria is key because it is considered the birthplace of Fatah al-Islam. Many think that Syria is responsible for the violence in Lebanon and should do more to ensure they are not “export[ing] terrorism.”
