Lebanon Proclaims Syria as Partner

On Sunday, the speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, Nabih Berri, stated that Syria was one of Lebanon’s key allies and has been a partner in “geography and history” alike. “Syria has supported Lebanon throughout history, particularly during our struggle against the Israeli enemy… it stood by the Lebanese National Resistance and maintained Lebanon’s independence and Arabism,” Berri said at the Islamic Message Scout in south Lebanon. He reiterated the significance of returning relations between the two countries to normal and that the bilateral cooperation on socioeconomic issues would be paramount for both countries in their future success. This statement of unity illustrates that both parties are taking steps to become regional partners in the Middle East.
