Syria Pushes for Golan To Be on Docket
In Cairo on Sunday, Syria urged the inclusion of the Israeli blockade of Gaza on the emergency docket of the Arab Foreign Ministers’ meeting on Wednesday. Syrian Permanent Representative to the Arab League Yusuf Ahmed went as far as to say, “The Israeli siege imposed on the Gaza Strip constitutes a crime against humanity and a violation of international laws and principles which requires an Arab serious stand and adoption of mechanisms needed to break the siege and face Israeli intransigence.” He also stated that he believed Israel was totally uncommitted to bringing peace in the region, despite their previous claims. He said,” Who occupies others land, practices the ugliest collective crimes against defenseless people, despises their dignity and deprives them of their right to life, cannot be a serious party in the peace process.” With the mounting tension regarding Israeli force and violence and clashing Arabist ideologies, only time will tell how this situation will unfold.
