Riots in Hebron over Eviction Rumors
Several Palestinians were injured as Jewish settlers in the West Bank city of Hebron rioted for several hours. The riots started as rumors spread that Israeli forces were going to evict the settlers from a building in the mainly Palestinian city. Settlers and supporters threw stones at Palestinians and Israeli police, causing damage to homes and cars.
The eviction was ordered in November and settlers have rioted several times over the issue. There were also riots in the Northern West Bank in support of the settlers in Hebron. The dispute is between the Israelis who claim that they legally bought the building from a Palestinian who pulled out of the deal. The Israeli courts have yet to decide the matter, but say the building must be vacated while they decide.
