Sending Spam Against the Law in Israel
Last June, a law was created where solicitors were given a 6 month period to ask their clients if they would like to receive unsolicited mail. The six month period ended on Monday and now the Communications Ministry is charging $250 for each unsolicited message sent to an Israeli citizen. These communications can come in the form of text messages, e-mails, or phone calls and an Israeli citizen is allowed to bring up to 30 cases to court at a single time against one single company who is sending spam.
To make sure that their companies were not affected, many public relations companies were sending out last minute e-mails on Sunday to make sure their clients gave consent to their mass mailings.
