Israeli Military Raids Kill Three
Two Palestinians were killed in an airstrike in southern Gazan town of Rafah, while a third Palestinian was killed by Israeli forces in the West Bank. The Israeli army said six mortar bombs had been launched by militants in Gaza. The man killed in the West Bank had been pardoned by Israel as part of an amnesty deal for former militants and was described as a wanted terror operative. Officials say that the man was shot on Monday when trying to escape, but witnesses say he was killed in an ambush by plain clothes officers.
The man, Abu Dhara, was said to be a former member of the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, who are participating in amnesty programs with Israel. They can be removed from Israel’s wanted list, by renouncing violence and completing a specified period of detention or probation. For this reason, he should not have been targeted and the Israelis have breached their agreement.
