Lebanese Students Protest in Beirut
Thousands of Lebanese schoolchildren, carrying Palestinian and Lebanese flags, protested in Beirut on Tuesday against the Israeli blockade of the Gaza Strip. The peaceful protest lasted for approximately 30 minutes outside UN House. The protest, consisting of singing anti-Israeli songs, was dispersed without force.
Last month, Israel tightened its blockade on Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. This move has been met with extreme criticism in the Arab world and on Tuesday an Israeli air strike in the southern Gaza Strip killed two Palestinians–only increasing the criticism. Hopefully, this particular incident will not have a lasting effect on efforts to join the two parties together in peace talks.
