Saudi Arabia to Set Minimum Wage for Nationals Only

A recent study has shown that the wages for citizens of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are incredibly low, as reported by the Labor Minister Ghazi al-Gosaibi.  In order to promote jobs for Saudi nationals, the state is going to establish guidelines for a suggested minimum payment depending on the type of work.  As of now, the Kingdom does not plan on enforcing these suggested wages, but is going to encourage that they be followed in order to promote more wealth among nationals rather than foreigners.  The overall goal of the establishment of a minimum wage is to decrease the number of unemployed men and women in a state that employs millions from outside its borders.  The government is worried that without enforcing the wages that people’s pay will still not increase or they will see their jobs go to foreigners, who will accept jobs for lower amounts of pay.  With the global financial crisis in full swing, the Kingdom has seen an increase in the number of foreigners seeking jobs in the state.
